Charts for Expenditures

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

From the Charts for Expenditures page, users can select options to use in generating a pie chart for expenditures.

IMPORTANT: There are three important items about generating Charts for Expenditures that are addressed on this page:

1.Charts for Expenditures display data for an individual candidate and the candidate's principle candidate committee, if the candidate has designated a principle committee. Data from PACs, Organizations, and Political Parties are not obtainable from this view.
2.Data is refreshed every two (2) hours. Data recently Filed or Published may not appear until the next refresh.
3.To view charts, the user must have Adobe Flash Player installed on the computer. The Can't See the Chart? link provides the user with a link to Adobe's website.

Pie Chart Results

Once the criteria has been selected, the user is presented with the representation of the findings. The chart below has been generated for all candidates who filed for the office of Governor for the the 2010 Election Year Cycle.

Information contained within a pie chart includes:

The office of the candidate, the candidate name, and the party affiliation;
The Total Expenditures filed in the system;
Within the chart itself, the user is provided with the percentage (of the whole) to which that portion of the pie is attributed. If the user mouses-over a piece of the pie, the user can see the monetary value associated to that piece and the piece separates from the pie.
The Legend provides the color-coding map to the pie and also reflects the monetary value associated to that color and the subsequent piece of pie. The color-coding tracks across all charts generated in one viewing. In the above example, the expenditures in both charts made for Other expenses appear in bright pink. The same can be said for all shared aspects of the charts.
In many instances, there will be a top-to-bottom scroll bar providing the user with the ability to scroll through the various attributes comprising the specific chart.
